Meet Theo, a retired breeding dog who is now looking for something he has probably never had before: a home where there are no strings attached. No job to do, no expectations to meet—just a family to love him, a comfy bed, good food, and plenty of walks.
At 8 years old, Theo is still one spunky Schnauzer! He is friendly, curious, and always on high alert, taking his job as neighbourhood watchman very seriously. His favourite time of day is when the dog walkers arrive because he knows that means it’s time to head outside for a good stroll and, most importantly, a serious sniff-fest. There is nothing quite like catching up on all the neighbourhood news through his nose!
Schnauzers are known for being lively, intelligent dogs who notice absolutely everything. They can also be enthusiastic barkers. Theo does his best in that department, but his bark is very faint because, sadly, he was devocalized before coming to Animatch. It is certainly not something we condone, but it is part of Theo’s history and who he is today.
Theo has also had all of his teeth removed, but don’t feel sorry for him—he certainly doesn’t! He enjoys his meals and has no trouble letting you know when he thinks dinner should be served. He is proof that a dog can leave some things behind and still have plenty of enjoyment left in life.
Like many male breeding dogs, Theo may need some help remembering that the house is not his personal territory. Marking can be an issue, but frequent trips outside, patience, supervision, and consistency should help him understand the new rules. After all, he is learning how wonderful life can be when you finally get to be someone's companion.
Theo gets along with other dogs and could do well with older children who understand that dogs need to be treated with kindness and respect. Most of all, he needs someone who will give him the chance to discover what being a cherished pet is really all about.
