Franklin here… and if I could tell you my whole story, you might understand a few of my quirks.
I arrived at Animatch as an unclaimed stray. No one came looking for me, which is hard to understand. How does a dog simply disappear from someone’s life and no one wonder where he went? When I arrived, I was a matted mess and, more importantly, I was scared. Really scared.
The good people at Animatch quickly learned that I needed something very important: space and patience. I wasn’t a fan of people reaching for me, trying to pick me up, or leaning over me. Those things frightened me, and when I felt threatened, I would growl. It was my way of saying, “Please back off—I’m not comfortable.”
Thankfully, I’ve come a long way. I’ve learned that people can be trusted, and the Animatch team has helped me feel much more secure. But I’m going to be honest with you: I am not an easy dog, and I’m not looking for just any home. I need someone who understands fearful dogs and is willing to let me set the pace while I continue building confidence.
At around 10 years old, I’m also ready to leave the chaos of puppyhood behind. A quiet, adult home without young children would suit me best. Grabby hands, loud voices, and people who expect me to instantly be their best friend are simply not my thing.
My ideal person will be experienced, patient, calm, and willing to put in the time. You’ll need to understand that trust may take a little while, and that I may still have moments of fear or reactivity. I’m not looking for someone to “fix” me—I’m looking for someone who will understand me, respect my boundaries, and help me feel safe.
Franklin may need a little more patience than some dogs, but underneath all those defenses is a senior fellow who deserves the chance to finally feel secure and loved.
If you have the experience, patience, and determination to help me continue my journey, perhaps we really could be a match made in heaven.
