About Finnegan

Finnegan here… yup, again! Sadly, my adoption didn’t work out, and a few months after finding a home, I’m back at Animatch looking for my second chance.

I’m a handsome Cocker Spaniel with plenty of personality—and, admittedly, a little too much enthusiasm when I meet other dogs while I’m on leash. You see, I’m leash reactive. That can mean barking, whining, lunging, and generally making a big fuss when another dog comes into view. It’s not me being a bad dog; I simply get overexcited and don’t always know what to do with all those feelings. Unfortunately, my adopter didn’t always feel strong enough to safely manage me, and that became the major reason I was returned.

So, my next family needs to understand that this is something we’ll have to work on together. Patience, consistency, training, and learning my triggers will be important. And because I can be a strong fellow, my humans need to be confident and physically capable of handling me safely.

A securely fenced yard would also be a big plus. It gives me a safe place to stretch my legs, play fetch, chase a ball or Frisbee, and burn off some of that Cocker energy without having to worry about passing dogs. Trust me, I can be quite entertaining when there’s a ball involved!

There isn’t much history available from my early years. I was adopted by a family who had me for about two weeks before I came to Animatch, so my first five years or so are pretty much a mystery. What we do know is that I can wag my tail at lightning speed, retrieve a ball, and sit when there’s a tasty treat strategically positioned in front of my nose. The dogs around here tell me I have sooooo much more to learn—and that’s where you come in!

I would do best as your one and only dog. An adult home would suit me best, preferably with people who have experience with dogs and understand that changing my behaviour will take time, commitment, and plenty of positive reinforcement. For everyone’s safety, I’d also prefer a home without cats.

I know I’ve already had one chance that didn’t work out. I’m hoping my next one will be the forever kind. Are you the person who can see past my leash reactivity, help me become the best version of myself, and give me the home I’ve been waiting for? If so, please fill in the Application Form and tell me what you have to offer. I’m ready to get started!
