Meet Cozie, a 9.5-year-old Yorkshire Terrier weighing in at just 4.5 lbs. This tiny girl may be small, but she has a big personality — and she’s not afraid to let you know when she’s uncomfortable!
Cozie was surrendered because she wasn’t comfortable living with children. And honestly, we can understand why. At less than five pounds, grabby little hands, sudden movements, and the excitement and activity that come with young children can simply feel like too much. In Cozie’s world, we must all look a little like the Jolly Green Giant!
Cozie has also taught us that she needs a little time before she feels comfortable being handled. Someone moving too quickly, reaching for her unexpectedly, or looming over her can cause her to react. She can be snappy when she feels overwhelmed, so learning to read her body language and respecting her boundaries will be essential. Cozie isn’t a dog who will thrive with someone expecting instant affection or a dog who is immediately comfortable being picked up and handled.
But there is much more to this little senior than her spicy moments. Give her time, patience, and the opportunity to build confidence, and you’ll begin to see her true personality emerge. She may even surprise you by discovering a love for retrieving a ball or shaking the stuffing out of a favourite stuffie!
And while Cozie is a senior, she certainly isn’t looking for a life of lounging around. She’ll still benefit from regular walks, mental stimulation, and a routine that keeps both her body and mind active. After all, senior dogs shouldn’t be sedentary — and neither should their humans!
Cozie’s ideal home will be a quiet, adult-only environment with someone who understands that trust is earned, not expected. Her first days — and perhaps her first weeks — should be about simply allowing her to settle in, observe her new surroundings, and feel safe without pressure for interaction. With patience, consistency, and experience, we believe Cozie will show you just how special she can be.
