About Lexy

Lexy is my name, and I am a striking tri-coloured Australian Shepherd with plenty of personality — and even more energy! Aussies are intelligent, athletic working dogs, which means I need both physical exercise and mental stimulation to keep my busy brain and body happy. Hiking, running, outdoor adventures… you decide, I’ll follow!

Boredom is not my friend. When an Aussie doesn’t have enough to do, we can become inventive — and not always in ways our humans appreciate. Barking, chewing and other forms of creative mischief can quickly become part of the program, so keeping me active and engaged is important.

I came to Animatch because my family was moving and, sadly, I wasn’t going to be part of the move. Bummer. I have lived with children, but older kids would probably be the better fit. I do have a herding instinct, and when I’m excited, I may try to nip at heels or ankles to keep everyone moving in the right direction. Little ones — and their parents — may not appreciate my interpretation of “helping.” If you’re considering an Aussie, now is a great time to open a book and learn what makes us tick.

I could use some work on my leash manners — I currently pull like a train — but I’m smart and ready to learn. And if you’ve ever dreamed of trying a dog sport, agility anyone? I could be an outstanding partner. Give me a job and I’ll be a very happy girl.

I’d also prefer a family who isn’t gone all day. I have far too much zip for that! I get along with other dogs and would love a canine buddy who enjoys playing and keeping up with me.
