About Fiona

Meet Fiona, an 8-year-old Poodle whose first eight years in Tunisia remain a mystery. What we do know is that she is a survivor. Despite being completely blind, Fiona has an incredible spirit and a quiet determination that inspire everyone who meets her.

When it became clear that Fiona had lost her sight, one of our experienced Foster Moms welcomed her into her home. Fiona settled in beautifully and has proven that, with a little patience and consistency, she can navigate her world with remarkable confidence. Her foster family has fallen completely in love with her.

An ophthalmologist has confirmed that Fiona is totally blind due to cataracts and glaucoma. To keep her comfortable, she will need eye drops twice a day. More importantly, she needs someone who understands that blindness is not a tragedy—it is simply how Fiona experiences the world. A predictable environment is key. Her food and water bowls should remain in the same place, furniture shouldn't be rearranged regularly, and it's always best to speak to her before reaching out to touch her.

Although she can't see, Fiona's hearing is exceptional. She takes her self-appointed role as home protector very seriously and will happily announce visitors with her sharp little bark, making condo or apartment living less than ideal. She would enjoy sharing her home with a calm, respectful dog who won't startle her, and she gets along well with her feline foster siblings.

Fiona's favourite things are wonderfully simple: leisurely walks where she can sniff to her heart's content, chewing on her beloved Nylabone, and ending the day curled up beside her favourite person for a cuddle.

Fiona doesn't spend a moment feeling sorry for herself, and neither should anyone else. She doesn't miss what she no longer has—she simply embraces each day as it comes. What matters to Fiona isn't seeing the world; it's knowing that her person is nearby, her bed smells like home, her meals arrive on time, and the sound of your voice tells her she is safe and loved. In the end, that's what every dog hopes for.
