Some dogs seem to have all the luck… and then there’s me. Let’s just say my start in life hasn’t exactly been a lucky one. But despite everything I’ve been through, I am one of the sweetest, friendliest Boxer boys you will ever meet.

Skip is my name, and I arrived at Animatch after being given up by a commercial breeder. Why? Well, apparently, a broken elbow that was never treated made me a little difficult to sell. And, as if that wasn’t enough, I was also born with cryptorchidism. No need to start Googling — it simply means that both of my testicles are undescended. I will still be neutered; my surgery will just be a little more complicated. No worries, though. I’m now in exactly the right place to get the care I need.

Yes, I will have a permanent limp, and I may develop arthritis earlier in life. My walks will probably need to be shorter than those of a typical young Boxer, and I may retrieve that ball once or twice before deciding I’ve made my point. But what I lack in athletic ability, I make up for in personality! I give the best wet kisses, have a tail that never seems to stop wagging, and would be perfectly happy being your co-pilot on car rides or curling up beside you for a good movie.

And while my legs may have some limitations, my doggy brain works just fine! I’d love enrichment games, interactive toys and activities that keep my mind busy without putting too much stress on my body. A little brain exercise can be just as tiring as a long walk — and much easier on my elbow!

One important thing about me: keeping my weight under control is a must. I know this face is practically begging for cookies, but we need to resist those puppy-dog eyes and keep the treats to a minimum. I promise, I don’t need food to feel loved. A good scratch behind the ears, a belly rub or some quality time with my people will make me just as happy.

I get along well with other dogs, and I’ll certainly miss some of my buddies here at Animatch. I’ve had more than my share of challenges for such a young dog, but none of them have taken away my ability to love people, enjoy life and make the most of every day.

Adopting a dog with a disability does come with some extra considerations, but if you’re the right person for me, I’ll give you something pretty special in return: a whole lot of love, plenty of tail wags and a very grateful Boxer who will be happy to be your best buddy.
