Carlito here—and seriously, can you get any cuter? At just 5.5 lbs, I am a proud Chihuahua who recently found my way to Animatch along with a bunch of my Chi friends.
Chihuahuas have been the “flavour of the month” for quite some time, but geez, people… do your research! We may be tiny enough to fit under your arm, but we are not accessories, ornaments or purse decorations. And when we are treated like anything other than dogs, well… that’s when the little armpit piranha in us can sometimes make an appearance.
Here’s the important part: we are dogs! Small dogs, yes, but dogs nonetheless. Give us clear rules, structure, training and plenty of socialization, and we can be absolutely wonderful companions. Because we are small, the world can sometimes seem like a pretty big place, so helping us build confidence is important.
I get along well with other dogs, having lived with quite a few small ones. I may need a little more work on my toilet training, but with patience, consistency and a good routine, I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it.
And please don’t make the mistake of thinking that because I’m only 5.5 lbs, I don’t need exercise. I can happily handle a 30-minute walk—and more than once a day, thank you very much! Keeping my body active and my little Chihuahua brain busy will help me stay fit, happy and healthy well into my senior years.
As for children, we generally don’t think Chihuahuas and young kids are the best combination. We are small and fragile, and being dropped, stepped on, tripped over or accidentally bumped can result in serious injury. I’m looking for people who understand that small does not mean indestructible!
So, how about making me an Ambassador for Good Chihuahua Behaviour? I’m ready to show you just how much dog can come in a 5.5-lb package.
Fill out the application and ask for Carlito. I’ll be waiting!
