Four legs? Who needs ’em! I’m perfectly happy working with three, and as far as I’m concerned, the only thing missing from my life is a devoted family. I’m Diesel, a proud tripawd, and best of all, the pain is behind me.

You may notice that my photos show me with four legs. My next photoshoot will feature the new and improved three-legged Diesel! I arrived at Animatch from Mistassini with a badly injured paw that had gone untreated for many months. There was no saving it, so the good Doc had a heart-to-heart with me and said, “Diesel, it has to go.” The good news? Tripawd dogs tend to adjust much faster than humans do to losing a limb.

And I’m already proving him right. I was up and walking the day after surgery! I still have some healing to do, but I’m not letting that slow me down. I’m a sweet, goofy and remarkably resilient guy, and I fully intend to live a long, happy and very full life.

My new family may need to make a few little adjustments to help me along. Some non-slip rugs would be terrific, as would a nice, thick orthopedic bed to give my remaining joints and elbows a comfy place to land. Raised food and water bowls would also make life easier, so I don’t have to bend down quite so far. Stairs? I’ll likely be able to manage them, but for now, we’ll need to take things slowly and be cautious while I heal.

I’m doing wonderfully, and the good people at Animatch are taking splendid care of me. But as nice as they are, Animatch isn’t a home. I’d much rather be settling into one of my own, with people who see the dog rather than the missing leg.
