Moose

About Moose

Moose is my name, and I am a Coonhound who finds himself looking for a new home because my family was breaking up and my humans were no longer able to care for me. It’s been a big change, but I’m ready to put the past behind me and focus on what comes next.

And what comes next is a wellness journey! At 105 pounds of sweetness, I have a little more Moose to love than is healthy for me. I’m looking for a human who will help me lose those extra pounds slowly and safely. No crash diets or marathon workouts, please! My exercise program should begin with several gentle neighbourhood strolls each day—heavy on the sniffing, light on the running. As I get fitter, we can gradually increase the time and distance.

A measured diet will also be important. I know I have a face that practically screams, “But I’m starving!” even when I’ve just eaten, so you’ll need to be strong. Food rewards should be kept to a minimum while I work toward a healthier weight. Honestly, hearing you say “Good boy, Moose!” and getting a satisfying scratch behind my ears are pretty great rewards too.

I’ve never lived with another dog, but I get along with them. I’m not really looking for a wrestling partner, though—I prefer a more civilized canine friendship. I’d also be perfectly happy being your one and only. Cats, however, are not on my list of future roommates. I’ve never lived with children, but older kids who understand and respect dogs could be considered.

I am a hound, after all, which means I’m not shy about announcing what’s going on around me. Because I can be quick to sound the alarm, apartment or condo living isn’t for me. A fenced yard would also be a great safety feature, especially as I get fitter and my hound nose starts making suggestions about where I should go exploring!

Most importantly, I’m looking for someone who understands that helping me get healthy is part of loving me. I need a family who will stay committed to me, my diet, my exercise and my well-being for the rest of my days.

I’ve already had one big change in my life. I really don’t want another. What I want now is a home, a routine, some gentle exercise, plenty of sniffing and a human who will love me enough to say “No more cookies, Moose!” when necessary. I promise I’ll make it worth your while. Fill out an application form and ask for MOOSE.
