Aloha from Kilby! Well, not exactly Aloha anymore, since I’ve traded the Big Island of Hawaii for Quebec and a whole new adventure. I’m a freckle-faced Pointer mix, and my sister Birdie and I made the long journey north after being surrendered to Action 4 Animals. Sadly, they face the same challenge there that so many rescues do – too many dogs and not enough committed families.

I’ve been told that Canada has something called winter. My new friends at the Animatch Centre seem to find this absolutely hilarious. They keep talking about snow, freezing temperatures and something called a “tuque.” I’m beginning to suspect they are having a little fun at my expense!

But honestly, if cold weather is the price I pay for finding a wonderful family who will love me for the rest of my life, I’m willing to give it a try. Besides, I hear there are shopping opportunities. A warm coat and some boots might be in order, followed by a Kong, sturdy bones, a few brain games and some good old-fashioned balls. If I’m going to become a Canadian girl, I might as well have the proper equipment!

Birdie is my sister and I love her, but we’re both ready to start our own chapters. We don’t need to be adopted together, and having my own family means I’ll get all the attention, guidance and time I need as I settle into my new life. I could also benefit from some training – and I think classes would be great fun. You teach me, I learn, and somewhere along the way we’ll become a pretty great team. Sounds like a plan to me!

As a Pointer mix, I’m not looking for a life spent lounging on the sofa all day. I’ll need regular exercise, adventures and opportunities to use my body and my brain. Walks, runs, hikes and exploring with my people sound pretty wonderful. And once I’ve had my fill of activity, I’ll be happy to switch gears and relax with you. A cozy spot, a good movie and my favourite humans nearby? Now that sounds like a pretty perfect ending to the day.

So, who is ready to introduce a Hawaiian girl to her first Canadian home – and her first Canadian winter? I’m hoping my next adventure will be the one that lasts a lifetime.
