Hey, Birdie here! I’m a freckle-faced Pointer mix who has travelled a pretty long way to find my forever family. I’m originally from the Big Island of Hawaii, where my sister Kilby and I were surrendered to Action 4 Animals. Turns out, they have the same problem there as so many places do – too many dogs and not enough committed homes.
My pals at the Animatch Centre keep laughing and saying, “Just wait until you see what’s coming, Birdie!” They can’t wait for me to experience something called snow. Honestly, I’m not sure what all the excitement is about. I left Hawaii for Canada, and apparently I traded palm trees for snowbanks!
But I’m willing to give winter a chance if it means finding a family who will love me and care for me for the rest of my life. A little shopping spree should help. I’m thinking boots, a warm coat, maybe one of those things called a “tuque” … and while we’re at it, some sturdy bones, a Kong or two, a brain game, and a couple of good balls. If I have to become a Canadian, I might as well do it properly!
I love my sister, but we both know that we can do just fine on our own. Finding one committed family is challenging enough, and having my own home will give my family more time to focus on me, my needs and helping me settle into this whole new world. I could use some training – okay, maybe more than a little! Let’s sign up for classes together. I promise to work hard, and it will be a wonderful way for us to bond while helping me become the best dog I can be.
Being a Pointer mix means I’m definitely not a couch potato. I’ll be happiest with a family who enjoys getting outside for walks, runs, hikes and adventures. But once I’ve had a chance to stretch my legs and burn off some energy, I’ll be perfectly content to curl up beside you. We can watch a movie, relax after a busy day, or simply enjoy being together. After all, being close to my people is pretty high on my list of favourite things.
So, are you the family who will give me my first home in Canada and introduce me to my very first winter? I’m ready for the adventure – especially if it comes with love, patience, training, and a lifetime commitment.
