About Scruff

Meet Scruff, a sweet Cockapoo who will soon celebrate his first birthday. Sadly, his family realized that they were not equipped to help him overcome his shyness and lack of socialization, so they turned to Animatch to find him the understanding home he deserves.

Scruff is a gentle soul who needs stability, patience, and a family experienced with shy or under-socialized dogs. He is looking for people who will encourage him at his own pace and help him discover the confidence that has been hiding inside him all along. A calm, well-balanced dog in the home would be a tremendous help and role model for him. Once he has settled in, positive reinforcement training will also go a long way toward building his confidence and helping him blossom.

Scruff is also a submissive pee-er, which is important to understand. This is not a housetraining issue, but rather an involuntary response often linked to fear, anxiety, or excitement. As he learns to feel safe and secure, this behavior should improve with patience, reassurance, and consistency.

This little guy enjoys his toys and is already looking forward to choosing a few favorites of his own. He also likes going for walks, although he may occasionally stop in his tracks and “hit the brakes.” Gentle encouragement, kindness, and making walks fun will help him gain confidence with every step forward. The beautiful thing about Scruff is that once he trusts you — and it truly doesn’t take long — he forms a deep bond and becomes a loyal friend for life.
