About Finnegan

The term “whirling dervish” comes to mind when you first meet Finnigan. When his happy dance begins, he expertly dodges hands trying to interrupt the ritual. It’s quite the ceremony — and very entertaining… at least for a while! Finnigan is bursting with life, endlessly bouncy, and his tail wags so hard you’d swear he’s solar-powered. Zoomies are a regular part of his day.

Like all energetic Cocker Spaniels, Finnigan needs variety in his routine — walks, playtime, retrieving games, and plenty of interaction. Exercising his mind is just as important as exercising his body. Healthy chew toys, scent games (like hiding treats in the grass – eventually!), and puzzle activities allow him to do what dogs love most: sniff, explore, and learn. Just 15 minutes of mental stimulation can be as tiring as a long walk. Chewing and licking are also calming activities, so Kongs, lick mats, stuffed toys, and appropriate chews are excellent tools to help him settle.

So, what’s his story? Finnigan was adopted, but after only two days his family realized he was more dog than they had anticipated. It’s worth remembering that Cocker Spaniels were originally bred as working dogs. Finnigan would benefit from continued training and would likely enjoy agility or other structured activities — even a simple backyard course would be a great outlet for his energy.

For now, Finnigan needs to begin again as a family dog. We feel he would do best as the only dog in the home, as his enthusiasm can be a bit overwhelming. He is quick to sound the alarm, so apartment or condo living would not be a good fit. An experienced family, ideally familiar with the breed, would be perfect for him. Animatch is determined to find Finnigan a home that will commit to him for the rest of his life.
