On the surface, she’s every bit the classic Dachshund: playful, opinionated, devoted to her people, and happiest when she’s curled up beside you for a cuddle. She loves her toys, prefers sunshine over rain, and isn’t shy about letting you know exactly how she feels. In short, she’s full of charm.
But Salsa’s story hasn’t been an easy one. Somewhere along the way, she missed out on the consistency and commitment every dog deserves. Having been moved from place to place, she’s had to figure things out on her own—and that’s left her a little protective of what she considers hers. In her previous home, with young children and other dogs, she showed some resource guarding. It’s something that can be managed, but it requires awareness, structure, and an experienced hand.
Salsa also has alopecia, which means her skin needs a little extra TLC. She’ll need protection from the sun, cold, and damp weather—but she’s more than happy to step out in style in a cozy sweater or jacket. She also takes medication every second day to keep her comfortable and healthy.
Right now, Salsa is thriving in a calm, stable foster home with an experienced caregiver who understands her needs. With that consistency, she’s shown just how much she can settle, trust, and enjoy life. She’s living with other dogs, but her adopter will need to be mindful and proactive when it comes to managing resources like food, toys, and personal space.
Salsa is looking for a committed, experienced home—someone who understands the Dachshund mindset and is willing to give her the structure, patience, and stability she’s been missing. A quieter household with older, respectful children (or no children) would suit her best. This is not a “try it and see” situation.
