Umi is my name and I am a gorgeous merle, Collie. I am just over one year old and lived with the same family since I was a puppy. Because of some changes and lack of time, they made the difficult decision to let Animatch find me a home where I would get the attention I deserve.

If you know Collies, you are aware that we are a herding breed and are not happy when we are bored or don’t get enough exercise. We are fast and athletic and need to be kept busy. So, I will need daily walks and exercise to vent my energy and do interesting things. With some guidance, I could even become proficient at agility. First, we should start by enrolling in a training class; raise me right and I will be close to perfect.

If you have another dog, I would gladly hang out with him. My friendly disposition means that I would be okay with respectful older children; loud voices and lots of kerfuffle make me a little nervous. Being a Collie means that, by nature, I am a barker. I would not do well in an apartment or condo.

Take a look at my beautiful coat – you must understand that to look like this, it takes some work. If you are not into grooming and fur, stop reading and go to the next dog. I should be brushed 2-3 times a week and more often during the shedding season. A visit to the groomer a few times a year would be appreciated. My dense coat protects my skin and regulates my temperature – NO, I am not too hot and NO, there is no need for a hair cut or to be shaved (with the exception of the fur between the pads on my feet). If you don’t like fur, I am not the dog for you. For that reason, an experienced Collie family would be ideal.
