Meet Shaggy Dog, a 9-month-old Pomeranian, who was given up with his brother (Ghost) because his family had too many dogs!  He would be grateful for a Pom-loving family who will commit to him for the rest of his life.  He is more than ready to start Chapter 2.

Shaggy and his brother were unsocialized, suspicious and fearful when they arrived; in fact, you might say they were a little snappy.  Fast forward a week or so and they now realize that humans mean him no harm; in fact, they come in handy if Shaggy wants a belly rub or needs a cuddle.  Whoever adopts Shaggy may go through another period of adjustment and must realize that not all dogs get over the trauma of abandonment in the same time frame.  Because he is unsure in new situations, don’t think for a minute that he doesn’t have lots of love to give. Introductions must be slow and easy, once Shaggy is comfortable in your presence, you will have a friend forever

True to the breed, he is quick to sound the alarm – he would not be welcome in an apartment or condo environment.   Also be aware that if a young, active dog like Shaggy starts to feel cooped up and restless, chances are he will bark.  He is still very young!  Lots of exercise and interesting adventures would give him a chance to release any pent-up energy.  That way he will be much calmer … and quieter … when he is in the house.

Before adopting a Pomeranian, everyone should do their research.  Poms are NOT a non-shedding breed.  Although he may not shed excessively, Shaggy is not a good match for people with allergies.  He requires brushing several times a week to prevent tangles and mats.  Pomeranians should NEVER be shaved – their coats protect from the cold and the heat.  Shaving the coat in the summer only makes it harder for them to stay cool; in some cases, it can also lead to alopecia.  Trimming by a groomer, especially around the butt for hygienic purposes, is a good idea.
