Foster Homes Needed for Four Formerly Feral Dogs

Eastern Ontario continues to face a serious overpopulation problem—too many dogs, not enough homes. A few months ago, a pack of stray dogs was spotted running loose. Over time, it became clear that some had a “home base” of sorts, though they belonged to no one. One kind soul fed them, but as often happens, more and more puppies appeared.

When help finally arrived in the form of Refuge RR 13 dogs were taken to safety.  Several pups and adolescents were found living indoors—never having seen daylight.  Nine of the 13 dogs went to various rescues.  Animatch helped out by taking four of these dogs.  The four at Animatch have been vet-checked and sterilized, but because they grew up without socialization, they now need patient foster homes to help them adjust to life as family dogs.

The goal is to place them separately so each can build confidence and learn to trust people. Animatch simply doesn’t have the space or resources to rehabilitate four semi-feral dogs at once, and these dogs can’t progress while waiting.

In their time at Animatch, absolutely no aggression has been shown; they are very docile, sweet dogs.  Here’s a bit about them:

•    Fay – Mom to the original litter. Aloof but gentle, she’s slowly learning that affection feels good (and treats help!).
•    Pyper – Outgoing and confident but bored and in need of activity—his energy needs an outlet.
•    Torres – Shy and sensitive; clean but nervous until he feels safe
•    Mavis – Playful and bright but can be a chewer and barker. No apartments for this girl!

We’re looking for experienced, patient fosters willing to commit for as long as needed—these dogs need stability, not short stays. If you already have a calm, balanced dog, even better; they can help show the newcomers how good life can be.

If you’ve ever wanted to make a real difference, this is your chance.

Please contact Rose at refugerr@gmail.com to learn more.

Help these dogs finally become the companions they were meant to be.

Note:  The featured dog is TORRES, more photos of the others to come.
