Sylvester

Hi Helen and the Animatch team,It's with great sorrow that I report to you that Sylvester (affectionately known as Cat in my house) passed away just before Christmas. We adopted him in March of 2004. Last year, he started having some issues with senility, but we loved him all the same. In November he started becoming very unhappy, refusing to eat, sleeping all day, and generally not feeling well. The vet put him gently to sleep while he was lying on my chest, with his little brother Jackson looking on.We got Sylvester as a companion for our last dog, Ginger, upon discovering that she liked cats. She died in 2009 at the age of 12 from puppy-mill dog complications, and he wandered the halls looking for her. I wanted another dog, and Jackson was our good fit. He loved the cat, playing with him even into old age (always gently), and Sylvester would lie on the coffee table or a chair and submit to having his ears cleaned, purring the whole time. Jackson was present when we put Old Man Cat to sleep, and he seems to understand that his buddy has gone to the Rainbow Bridge to wait for him.Sylvester was a very special cat, and brought much joy and laughter to our household. I never did manage to catch him saying 'Hello!' on video (though not for lack of trying), and his silly antics brought around even the staunchest non cat-lover.Thank you, Animatch, for giving us the opportunity to love such a wonderful kitty for almost ten years. He got his 'furever' home, and though we miss him, his passing was peaceful and gentle.-The Jowetts
