Ponchi

A Male Chihuahua presently Adopted

Chihuahuas are very popular dogs – you can tell by the number in rescue!  Chihuahuas truly are a fantastic, pocket-sized breed, but they are not the right dog for everyone.  If you are considering adopting a Chi, Animatch recommends doing research on this breed.  Ponchi was given up, along with two other Chis, because his family had too many dogs.  He is tiny in stature, but extremely large in personality.  He’s a complicated little creature, very unsure and fearful of his surroundings.  When he feels threatened, he can be reactive.  Ponchi, like most Chihuahuas, does not mix well with young children.  For the most part, very tiny dogs do not tolerate rambunctious children who enter their comfort zone.  Also, active little ones can inadvertently step on or hurt a 5-lb dog.  Believe it or not, Ponchi needs to use his legs; continuously being in his human’s arms will only create an armpit piranha.  Remember Ponchi’s legs need exercise in the form of walks which will serve to release any pent-up energy. It will also give him the opportunity to put his senses to work... smelling, exploring and seeing the world.  Animatch is looking for an experienced (preferably Chihuahua-savvy) home who will have the patience and commitment to show this little fellow how to trust again.  If you feel that you are the right home for Ponchi, please fill in the Adoption Form.
