Forest

A Male Canadian presently Available For Adoption

Forest is nearly 5 years old and was given up because his family did not have the time for him.  The description given on Forest was that he was a typical, goofy Lab, who tended to jump on people when excited.  However, when he arrived and began to work with him, it was soon evident that Forest had some fears and quirks.  Of course, our first thought was that he would benefit from some one-on-one with one of our very experienced Foster Mom’s, Lori.  After living in her home for the past few weeks, she describes Forest as follows:

Forest is good on leash, and of course, loves his walks.  He is happiest outside, and will walk with his tail wagging, and will greet people.  He is good with other dogs, and does not appear to have a high prey drive. He doesn't bark much, clean in the house, and lets you know when he has to go out.  When left alone, he is not destructive.  He is NOT crate trained, and tends to panic and bark if you try to crate him.

In the house, he is very unsure of himself.  He walked around the house for 2 weeks with his tail between his legs.  He wants to be close to you, but isn't sure if it is allowed.  At first, any quick movement, or loud voice would send him scrambling out of the room.  When he comes to you in the house, he is very tentative, but is getting better.  If you call him over to you in the house, he slinks over, very unsure.  Outside, he is happy to come to you, and is very good off leash, coming back to check on you often.

Every once in a great while he forgets his fear, and gets excited, and jumps, but is mouthy. The person who adopts Forest is going to have to be very patient with him.  Learning trust is a long process. Forest would do best in a quiet home that will give him plenty of exercise. Although he is good with other dogs, he would thrive as an only dog in the house.
