Fall activities to do with your dog
The leaves are changing colors and the weather is getting cooler. Fall is here! It’s time to get outside and enjoy nature’s beauty, and who better to that with than your furry, four-legged friend!
Here are some fun activities that you and your dog can get into this fall:
Pick apples at a local orchard
Who doesn't love picking fresh apples on a crisp, fall morning? Why not make it better by bringing your dog with you to these pet-friendly apple orchards?
- Aux Vergers Petit et Files (Mont-St-Hilaire)
- Verger Richard Legault (St-Joseph-du-Lac)
- Domaine du Flanc Sud (St-Hilaire)
- Verger Gibouleau (Laval)
- Jude Pomme (Oka)
Visit a provincial park
There’s no better way to take in the changing of the leaves than strolling through one of our beautiful provincial parks. There are 3 within a 1-hour drive from Montreal! Your pup will love the smells and exploring the trails. Make sure you pack up some old towels to clean off your dog; some trails can get muddy. And remember to always check for ticks after your hike. Visit www.sepaq.com to find the closest park to you!
Play in the leaves
I know some dogs that love fall because of all the leaves on the ground. Hide some of your dogs favorite toys under the leaves in your backyard or in the local park and watch him go wild tearing through the leaves to find them. Or, if you’re up for the work, rake a big pile of leaves and let your dog play with them. Toss leaves up in the air and watch your dog leap for joy trying to catch them. Just make sure to remove any branches from your piles to keep your dog from getting poked.
Get your dog back into healthy form
Is your dog a little overweight, or needing more exercise? Now is the perfect time to start a new routine. With the weather being cooler, it will be more comfortable for your dog to do outdoor activities than in the heat of the summer. Brisk walks and eating healthier is not only good for us, but for your dog too. Get them out of the house more often and get them use to the new routine before the snow comes.
With these suggestions comes the perfect opportunity to make some great memories with your pet. Take some photos and send them over to us, we’d love to see how you and your pups will be taking advantage of this beautiful autumn!
