Farewell to the Animatch Centre
It is with great sadness that we announce that Animatch must find a new location. In 2000, Helen and her young family moved into the house that present volunteers and thousands of adopters know as the Animatch Centre. By no means is it a substitute home for dogs but it is a wonderful place for dogs to wait for their furever homes. Although the address was never made public, except to Volunteers and to potential adopters when they came to adopt, Animatch is located in Les Cedres beside the municipal garage for equipment storage. The City of Les Cedres has always been understanding and city workers have been gracious; in fact, they have been known to assist when a dog is on the loose. As with all off-island communities, the population is rapidly growing and the city now needs more space – including the house and property that is now home to our dogs.
Animatch is not prepared to close its doors – there is simply too much work left to do, too many dogs left to help, too much change and education that must take place. The only reason we would ever want to close is if there were no more dogs in need – and that does not appear to be happening any time soon. The future location is uncertain and an enormous concern to our Leader, Helen. While most communities are not against people having dogs as pets, they do not want an organization such as ours in their midst. Municipal governments have a long list of regulations and by-laws to which organizations such as ours must conform. In addition to finding a municipality that will accept Animatch, another major concern is the expense of starting over. When Animatch moved into the house/building in Les Cedres, there was no fence, cement floors, no air conditioning, no washer/dryer; however, over the years, through donations and fund-raisers, Helen managed to turn it into a welcoming temporary home for dogs in a clean and comfortable environment.
Because so many adopters and supporters have always come through for us in the past, we wanted to share this information. Putting our heads together and working collectively as a community of dog lovers may help us find a solution. Even when Animatch moves to another location, chances are major renovations will be required. In addition, we must ensure that we have the bare necessities (running water, heating/air conditioning, fencing etc.) to operate and keep our dogs healthy and safe. Our budget is limited. Now more than ever we are appealing to all the compassionate and generous humans who always seemed to come to our “rescue” in the past. We are counting on your financial support. Your contribution – however large or small – will be put to good use and will be sincerely appreciated. Rest assured, Animatch never gives up. Help us in our effort to provide our dogs their new temporary home; their future is in our hands.
Together we have made a difference and will continue to make a difference in the lives of so many deserving dogs.
