A Word from Dr. Plasse - Microchips

One microchip, one cat, two owners and a new friendship!

A stray cat was brought to us a few weeks ago. The situation was all too familiar to Rebecca, our animal care giver, who took care of the patient, put him in a cage and gave him food and water. Since the cat was in fine shape and had obviously been well cared for, it was highly probable that he was lost or had recently run away.

When Véronique, our other animal care giver, arrived at the clinic, she tried to identified our newcomer without success. She then decided to check if the cat had been microchipped.  To everyone's relief, the scanner found a microchip displaying a number.  We then accessed the database which provided the name of Zoro's owner. We quickly contacted him only to learn that Zoro had run away over 10 years ago!!!

Meanwhile, knowing that stray animals in LaSalle are often brought to our clinic, another person called us to claim Noireau while actually describing  Zoro!!! When that person came to the clinic, Noireau recognized him immediately.

It was clear that Zoro and Noireau were one and the same. The first owner decided to leave his cat with the family he had been living with for the past ten years. But both owners have been keeping in touch and will soon get together for dinner.

WOW,  stories which start like Zoro's rarely have this kind of ending.

In a word, have you pets microchipped!
